Spartans’ historic fake field goal beats Notre Dame in OT
Throughout American history, the greatest of all athletes have been separated from the ordinary and mediocre. Oftentimes, NFL Hall of Famers began their journey to excellence during their NCAA college years. During these years, players gain experience, strength and physical ability, football IQ and wisdom. If asked, most football lovers would attest to experiencing their share of remarkable, rememorable and historic college football games. At the top of their list would be the 2010 Michigan State Spartans versus Notre Dame “Irish” game. In this game, both teams played tug of war throughout the first 4 quarters, leading up to one, unforeseen play, “Little Giants!”
At the end of regulation,the score was tied 28-28. The Michigan State Spartans won the toss and chose to play defense instead of offense in OT. Coach Dantonio set his team up for what appeared to be a normal field goal that would have tied the game 31-31. Everyone, including the 78, 411 fans in the stands of Spartan stadium, was anticipating a tied game. Prior to this game, Notre Dame’ record as 1-1 and Michigan State’s record was 2-0. Both teams stepped out on the field to prove something to themselves, fans and observers. Notre Dame was ready for this much needed when while Michigan State knew this win was a necessity to start their season off right.
